The Tarnhelm's Custom Blind Installation

As of June 18, 2023, Phil installed new window coverings on the Tarnhelm, our 1992 Carver 33 Tri-Cabin Yacht. Originally, our boat came with cloth curtains, but we replaced with "cut them yourself" accordion shades from Amazon, and canvas window covers for our two forward windows.

This year, we replaced those canvas covers with white film, and the accordion shades with custom-made waffle blinds.

Below is how our windows now look during the day. They open with just a light push up, and close with an equally light pull down.

Even though the blinds were custom made, they still had to be fit to the slant of our windows, which are not straight up and down. To secure them to the windows, Phil used all his engineering skills to rig up a vertical cord system to hold them back while still allowing the blinds to be easily opened and closed.

Work on the windows, including finding a window-film installer, and engineering what are now tight-fitting blinds took over two weeks. Luckily, the Tarnhelm has a comfy bedroom where Phil stayed during this process, even though our ship is still on land. Launch will be around June 28th, weather permitting.
